Wakatipu Toy Library Terms & Conditions
Nau mai, welcome to the Wakatipu Toy Library
By becoming a member or using our services, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions. Please read carefully.
All membership fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Terminal (EFTPOS) fees are not included in the membership rate. Bank transfer payments do not incur additional fees.
Fees, fines, and borrowing limits are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Committee.
Membership covers one family only and cannot be shared or transferred.
Members must treat the Toy Library, its staff, volunteers, and other members with respect and care.
It is your responsibility to keep your personal details up to date, including contact details and number of children.
You will receive a MiBase login (https://wakatiputoylibrary.mibase.co.nz/members/login.php) to manage your membership, renew toys, sign up for helping duties, track loans and missing pieces.
All memberships (including gift voucher recipients) incur a $100 refundable bond.
Your bond is held to cover fees, replacement costs, cleaning charges, or incomplete helping sessions.
Any fees will first be deducted from the bond. If costs exceed the bond, you will be invoiced for the full remaining amount.
Unpaid fees or fines not settled within the invoice timeframe may be referred to small claims court and/or debt collectors.
If the bond is a barrier to joining, please kōrero with us — alternative arrangements may be available.
When renewing your membership, your bond can be retained and carried over.
Your bond will be refunded once all toys have been returned clean, complete, and any outstanding fees are settled.
Helping members support the day-to-day running of the Toy Library.
6-month membership: 1 helping session (2 hours)
12-month membership: 2 helping sessions (2 hours each)
Your first helping session must be completed within the first half of membership.
Members who do not complete their required helping sessions by the end of their membership term will be charged the difference between a helping and full membership.
Duty sign ups are managed through MiBase.
If you can’t attend your scheduled session, please contact the Librarian as early as possible.
Incomplete helping sessions may prevent membership renewal and may incur fees that are deducted from the bond.
All toys are borrowed at your own risk. Membership fees do not cover loss or damage.
You may only borrow toys once proof of membership payment has been made and ID has been sighted.
Borrowing limits per loan:
Classic memberships: 4 toys, 2 puzzles, 1 costume
Premium membership: 6 toys, 3 puzzles, 2 costumes
Holiday memberships may exclude certain high-demand toys
Please check toys and puzzles are complete before leaving, or as soon as you get home. If anything is missing, or damaged contact the Librarian immediately at wakatiputoylibrary@gmail.com
Toys cannot be swapped, loaned, or borrowed on behalf of others.
No toys can be borrowed while overdue items, fines, or unpaid fees remain on your account.
Please supervise toy use to prevent damage (e.g. from pens, water, or rough play).
Do not leave toys outside overnight.
Do not attempt to repair toys yourself without first speaking to the Librarian.
There are no holds or reserves on toys.
Toys are loaned for up to 3 weeks and can be renewed once (excluding high-demand toys).
Please return toys clean, dry, and complete during open hours only. Leaving toys outside of the library may result in fines or membership suspension.
There are no late fees, but new toys cannot be borrowed while overdue toys remain on your account.
Please inform the Librarian about any broken or missing parts at return.
If a toy is returned dirty or incomplete, it will be renewed for another 3 weeks for cleaning or to locate missing pieces. If you have already used your renewal limit, please speak to the Librarian about an extension.
If a toy is returned dirty, damaged, or incomplete without prior notice to staff, your borrowing allowance may be reduced by that number of toys, until the issue has been resolved.
Missing pieces will be logged on your MiBase account.
You have up to 9 weeks (from due date) or until your membership ends (whichever comes first) to return toys, missing pieces or dirty toys. If toys or their pieces are not returned within this timeframe, you may be charged a replacement, repair or cleaning fee.
If items are broken you may be charged a repair or replacement fee.
A $10 fee applies for lost Zippit bags.
A $20 fee applies for lost Sistema containers
Damage, cleaning, missing parts and unreturned toys: charged based on age, condition, and importance of the item (from small replacement charges up to full replacement cost).
We aim to ensure all toys are safe and well-maintained. Please report any safety concerns immediately.
Members must provide their own safety gear (e.g., helmets).
For battery-operated toys, please use your own batteries and remove them before returning the toy.
Toys are borrowed at your own risk, and the Toy Library is not liable for injury, loss, or damage resulting from toy use.
Members must ensure toys are suitable for their child’s age and stage and supervise tamariki at all times — both while borrowing and when visiting the Library.
The Toy Library is not responsible for vehicle damage in the carpark.
Personal information is used solely for membership administration and will not be shared with third parties.
Your information will not be shared with third parties except for debt recovery purposes if required.
Members are responsible for ensuring their details remain up to date.
Membership may be suspended or terminated if:
Toys are repeatedly kept overdue without communication
Toys are consistently returned damaged, incomplete, dirty or outside open hours
Helping sessions are not completed
Behaviour is inappropriate or disrespectful
Fees or fines remain unpaid
Unreturned toys or unpaid fees and fines remain the responsibility of the member even after termination.
If significant unpaid fees, fines, or unreturned toys remain, the Toy Library may pursue recovery through debt collectors and/or the Disputes Tribunal (small claims court).
The Wakatipu Toy Library reserves the right to update or modify these Terms & Conditions at any time. Significant changes will be shared via our website, newsletter, or email.
By signing up, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
We look forward to helping your whānau enjoy the fun and discovery of play!
